Ender in Exile

The Ender Series seems to never end. Holes are filled, stories are retold from different perspectives and characters are enhanced. I’m fine with this so long as Orson Scott Card doesn’t invite anyone to write the books similar to Tom Clancy.

In Ender in Exile, Card fills the gap between Ender’s Game and Speaker for the Dead well. As he acknowledges, this is not the story that he necessarily set out to write, but it turned out well.

Ender continues his journey into space to become the Speaker for the Dead. He weaves the story with twists and turns – sometimes a little outlandishly. Along with continuing the story and filling the gaps, Ender overcomes new obstacles that point to future developments. Overall the book is classic Card. The story is captivating and the characters are developed. If you hunger for more Ender, pick up Ender in Exile.

“You need a lot of things to be a successful venture capital investor. You need to understand the market you invest in. You need great networking skills. You need to be able to add value to your investments. You need an understanding of financial markets and how companies are valued. Those skills are necessary but not sufficient. Because most of all you need to be able to make leaps of faith.” —Fred Wilson, The Leap of Faith
