RIM need a product vision identifying a few new differentiators for BlackBerry that will resonate well with the busy knowledge workers who are at the core of its installed base. There should be no more than three of these features (because customers can’t remember more than three), and they should not be copies of things that Apple is already implementing.
- What’s really wrong with BlackBerry (and what to do about it) by Michael Mace
Michael Mace completes some excellent analysis on the market adoption of mobile devices, which can be applied to most consumer technology (as he does). It is interesting to see how he suggests RIM can fix the ailing Blackberry products. Essentially he wants them to out-Apple Apple by relentlessly focusing on the entire product experience with a keen eye toward three differentiators. It’s an intriguing piece on market analysis and the problems of a declining platform from someone who would know.
